In Denver and the rest of Colorado, it is still against the law to own or sell magic mushrooms. But the city has told the cops to give these cases the least attention. The city of Denver can’t use city money to go after small psilocybin-related crimes. It is not legalization, but it is a step in that direction.

Chicago is the biggest city in the U.S. to make changes because of magic mushrooms. Like Denver, Chicago passed a rule that makes cases involving magic mushrooms the lowest priority for law enforcement. The city council passed this measure unanimously, making it an official city law. This makes it stronger than the measure that Denver passed.

Santa Cruz: The California city of Santa Cruz passed a law that makes magic mushrooms less illegal. This law is similar to the one in nearby Oakland. Psilocybin is still illegal to own, grow, use, or sell, but local law enforcement gives magic mushroom cases the least attention. But the law in Santa Cruz makes an exception for people who have a “commercial” amount of psilocybin mushrooms. If someone has a lot of money, the government could punish them.
