Description

Psilocybe Semilanceata, the official Liberty Cap mushroom spore print taken from the wild in Washington. Our spore prints are all made the same season from local foraging legend Mr. Brown. Its conical to bell-shaped cap with a distinct nipple-like protrusion sets it apart. Psilocybe semilanceata is widespread, often found in grassy areas, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. The liberty cap typically reaches up to 2.5 cm (1 in) in diameter. The cap is yellow to brown, with radial grooves when moist, and fades to a lighter color as it matures. The slender, long stipes are of the same or slightly lighter color than the cap, and the gills, initially cream-colored, eventually tint purple to black as the spores mature. The dark purplish-brown spores are ellipsoid in shape, measuring 10.5–15 by 6.5–8.5 micrometers. The mushroom grows in grassland habitats, especially wetter areas, and is widely distributed in the temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in Europe. Additionally, the mushroom’s microscopic characteristics include basidia, cheilocystidia, and cap cuticle details, which can be observed under an optical microscope.
