Golden Teacher versus The Ghost
Test results from Altitude consulting will reveal the true potency of our favorite magic mushroom strains. When it comes to active content in Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms we are mainly analyzing 4 main components.
Psilocybin is perhaps the most notable chemical we all refer to as the active molecule responsible for tripping. Psilocin a more reactive chemical in the presence of oxygen, is known to dephosphorylate once the mushroom has been picked and dried. Aeruginacin is a relatively new alkaloid that has been thought to play a role in the entourage effect of metabolizing mushrooms in our gut along with Baeocystin. The last two molecules will be taken into more consideration in the research on strain-specific effects and even though traces of Baeocystin and Aeruginacin are low their effects can still heavily dictate how we feel when ingesting magic mushrooms.
The active potency of various magic mushrooms found in the wild globally.
Based on the chart on page 1 it seems apparent that The Azurescen are the most potent variety of magic mushroom. Azurescen grow only in specific areas near coastal dune grass and hyper locale areas in the Pacific Northwest. The far northern coast of California through Oregon and Washington are common areas where we can walk along dune grass environments and find the Azurescen growing amongst dune grass. The dramatic amount of Baeocystin can be one of the major reasons why this variety has the reputation as the top dog in the magic mushroom variety.
The test result here will create quite a debate among mycologists.
The Ghost is a very powerful albino Psilocybe Cubensis appears to have even more Psilocybin compared to the Azurescen (Baeocystin levels are .028 versus 0.38 which we know causes the more dramatic effects in the Azurescen mushroom)
The Ghost is a Psilocybe Cubensis variety with one of the highest-rated alkaloid content at 1.754% When it comes to potency we must account for the ratios of these background alkaloids to come to any conclusions. Just because the potency of the Psilocybin is slightly higher in Ghost does not make it stronger. The ratio of Baocystin being nearly 7 times stronger in Azurescen is most likely the indicator of its dramatic hallucinogenic properties. Wood lover paralysis is a common side effect of ingesting Psilocybe Azurescen and Cyanescen so the benefit to Ghost is no loss of motor skills and wood lover paralysis.
Golden Teacher is by far the most popular Psilocybe Cubensis variety to grow at home.
The golden teacher is a very common magic mushroom that is known for its energetic and happy effects. So far we have seen the potency of Azurescen and the Ghost but Golden Teacher may have a psilocybin content of only 0.303%, but that does not mean it is not good. Let’s be real, it’s nearly impossible to properly dose a Microdose of magic mushrooms and Golden Teacher might be the only mushroom that is ingested and not trip too hard in the attempt to Microdose. Ghost potency levels were at 1.7% versus the Golden Teacher at 0.30%, which means our Ghost variety is 5.6 times MORE potent than GT.
You would have to ingest 5.6 grams of Golden Teacher to come close to the one-gram dose of Ghost and that does not even account for the background alkaloids we discussed that play major roles in the Entourage effects of Baeocystin and Aeruginascin. This is a massive difference in active materials and the best way to take away is NOT ALL CUBES ARE CREATED EQUAL.
In order to standardize the testing of our strains all of the mushrooms are grown with the same grain, same substrate, and that includes the brand of grain we sterilize and the coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum as well. My main concern with using manure amendments is the consistency of the test results that will surface as we test on an annual basis. The level of beneficial bacteria in manure can vary from batch to batch and will not give us any consistency for our testing purposes in the long run.
Shakti Psilocybe Cubensis has a notable potency 4 times higher than Golden Teacher
