Sterile P. Cubensis spore print of  Hualta. This variety originated from Huautla de Jumenez which is the home town state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The town of Huautla has gained major attention  since the 1950s and 1960s due to the work of Maria Sabina, a Mazatapec healer who used mushrooms in spiritual rituals for decades.

R. Gordon Wasson was responsible for publishing the details of his travels when he visited  Huaulta. When Time magazine published on May 13, 1957, it made national waves to experience the ethnogenetic fruits of the American population.
