Purple Mystic

Purple mystic was a name coined for a psilocybe cubensis found in East Plant City, Florida. Many unique varieties of landrace mushroom spores come from the state of Florida. Areas like Melbourne Florida are heavily infused with raising bovine and with air quality ratings that compete in the top 5 of a nation Florida makes an excellent area to pheno hunt new cubensis specimens.

Purple Mystic has a unique lavender-like tint when spores combine with water and usually produces a heavy dark purple/black print on foil. Purple mystic can be difficult to tell apart from something like golden teacher since they both exhibit gold caps, white stems, and paper thin veil that will break upon maturity and produce a heavy load of dark spore. Potency can be notably higher from the typical golden teacher but atheistically hard to tell apart even for an avid cultivator. Since Florida has a rather extreme temperature range year round other attributes like the ability to handle a cooler weather event may also draw in added benefits unlike its counterparts from further south in the equatorial region.

Shroomery is a forum used for you guessed it.. shrooms and the user “Blackd0ve420” shared his wild landrace strain with others to spread its prolific fruits. Here is a link you can read about dating almost 11 years ago telling you his first-hand story about finding the original purple mystic specimen. He has over 3600 posts alone on shroomery which should tell you one thing, he’s a pioneer of the wild landrace hunters of Florida.

In the wild, you can distinguish the unique circular pattern on the edge of the mushroom cap. This is called the margin (edge). When cultivated indoors the margin is less apparent. Light had a large effect on the pigmentation of mushrooms in general so this could have to do with several factors including exposure to natural sunlight or cold snaps from the weather or a number of others. (These weighed around 89 grams each which would dry to about 9 grams total per mushroom) Countless “landrace” varieties of P. Cubensis and Panaeolus Cyanescen spore drops have been made by citizen scientists to global spore vendors in the state of Florida.

Beef cattle responsible for producing manure that birth these mushrooms can be traced all the way back to the early 1500s. Juan Ponce De Leon brought cows to these pastures in 1521. (Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services) This was the first known state where cattle were present in the United States.
